Adwords - is a search marketing program utilizing small textual advertisements on Google and it's partner sites on a CPC (cost per click) basis.

Algorithm - is the mathematical criteria used by each search engine to determine where a web page will rank in the search results.

Anchor Text - is also known as Link Text, which is the visible text in a hyperlink you click to go to another page or website.

ALT tag or ALT text - is the text that appears when your pointer moves over an image or a graphic and acts as an alternative source of text for the visually impaired.

Back Links - Are also referred to as inbound links or IBL and represent the number of web pages found in a specific search engine or across the Internet that contain a link to a specific page.

B2B - is the acronym for Business to business.

B2C - is the acronym for Business to consumer.

Bandwidth - is the amount of data transferred from one server to another, be it uploading data to the server or downloading from it. Most hosting companies set limits on the amount of data transferred, or bandwidth, and how much you pay depends on how much bandwidth you use each month.

Banner Burnout - Also known as banner fatigue, occurs when the the content of the banner is no longer noticed by consumers, or consumers ignore the content of banners altogether.

BBS - is the acronym for Bulletin Board System.

Below the fold - is the content of a web page that is not seen by the visitor unless they scroll down.

Beta - is the testing stage of a commercial software. E.G. MSN is in beta testing of their new search index, which is planned to launch late this year or early 2005. Beta computer software is generally plagued with bugs and something to avoid if you value your hard-drive.

Blind Link - is a link, which can be either text or a banner, that misleads the visitor.

Blind Traffic - Low quality visitors generated by misleading banners or spam which rarely convert to a sale.

Blog - Online journal of a website owner. The term BLOG comes from web log.

Bot -is an abbreviation for robot (also called a spider or spyder). It is a software programs that scan the web, indexing web pages for search engines or harvesting e-mail addresses.

BPS - is the acronym for Bits-Per-Second.

Bridge Page - is similar to a "Doorway Page", because it is an entry page into a website designed to target keywords that are usually absent from the home page or internal content.

Button - A small graphic shaped like a button that is hyper linked and usually have text embedded in them. When you click the button you are taken to the relevant page.
